My three highlights of year 8 camp

My first highlight was the geysers but it was a bit smelly as well. It was my number one highlight because i really liked it when it exploded and some of them were very deep and smoking. There were some kind of green liquid that looks like acid. There were a lot of geysers my favourite ones were the ones with the hot steaming water because some parts of it were really colourful.

My second highlight of year 8 camp was the sheep show. It was my second favourite because it was really funny and entertaining. Especially when the one of the sheep was waving at us. The other cool thing there was when we got to pet and feed the baby sheep and hold the bunnies. I was a bit scared.

My third highlight at Year 8 camp was swimming at the beach because there were some really big waves and I swam under it. It was also raining, Mostly I like to have a swim at the beach when it rains. We were also playing a game of touch so it was really fun.

(sorry no pics)

My Opinion On Netbooks

My netbook helps me learn more because I understand more online. I can learn things myself. For example if I don't know how to fix something I can just Google search it and I won't have to bother anyone.

We don't just learn from our teachers. We mostly do our learning online. There are many different websites that helps us learn better. They are amazing from what I believe. My results are much better than when I used to use just ordinary books.

I have learnt a lot of things myself with the help of the internet and one them was how to bake a cake. Well my wanted to learn so I just learnt it as well. We didn't really know the recipes so we looked online and got it.

The special thing that I learnt from my teacher was how to be a purple cow. A lot of you may not know what a purple cow means. It means to stand out from the rest and it means to do better than your best.

The significant thing that I have learnt was how to use I movie. My friend Anthony taught me how to use thesaurus. Thesaurus is a website that helps you learn more about words that you don't know about.I once created a D.L.O using I Movie to help our school learn a karakia called Ki Nga Ho.

I have grown a lot in my key competencies when I started to use a netbook. I can manage myself
because when my teacher gives me a task to do I can do it faster and better because when I use Google docs it corrects the wrong words. I am more confident than I used to be before. I didn't know that very things that I know now.

I love working with netbook.

Nelson Mandela

Nelson Mandela was the greatest man in the world. He changed the world and made it an awesome place for millions of people. He created democracy between coloured and white people. Nelson Mandela went to prison for 27 years for believing that there is no racism, for believing that there is no separation between coloured and white people.

Nelson Mandela was born in july 18th 1918 in a small village of Mvezo to a chief named Gadla Henry Mphakanyiswa. His dad named him Rolihlahla. He was the first one of his family to attend a school. At school his teacher couldn’t pronounce his name properly so she named him Nelson.

While attending Fort Hare University (studying for Bachelor of Arts Degree) he met two men who eventually became close friends. One was Oliver Tambo and the other was Kaiser “K.D” Matanzima. Matanzima was in line to be the king of Transkei.

Mandela did not finish his degree at that time. After a year he became involved with a student boycotting university policies. Perhaps this was his first outward record on political activism.
Sadly, He was ordered to leave Fort Hare University.

A while after this Mandela had refused an arranged marriage and ran away to Johannesburg. there he found a job as a guard at a mine, but was fired when they found out he was a royal runway. He then worked as a clerk and finished his degree At University of South Africa. From there he moved to University Witwatersrand to study Law. While studying there he met 3 people who were like him who didn’t want seperation. They were Harry schwarz, Joe Slovo and Ruth First.

This young Nelson Mandela was an intelligent boy born into royalty. He understood the meaning of equality and had the opportunity to be well educated. He took up those opportunities and used his knowledge, intelligence and beliefs to fight for equality and justice for not only south Africans but people everywhere.

My Top Three Highlights Of Pt England School 2013

My best highlight of 2013 would have to be the "Waitangi Launch (Our Nations Children)." Because when we arrived there, there was Maori television and One News filming us. Also Andrew Anderson was there the guy who directed and produced "Shrek and Narnia," I even got his autograph. The best thing was that the governor general was there, it was a great honour meeting him and all the others. The food was spectacular, I loved it a lot.

My second highlight was The Waitangi Trip. The best thing there was the powhiri experience it felt like I was travelled back in time into the olden ages of the Maori time. It was really inspiring. Staying at the Copthorne Hotel, the food was very very delicious and the rooms were cool because we had sky. The
other inspiring thing was the educational experience with Mrs Brown.

My third highlight of the year was "sixty the quest." I loved it because I was part of the show with some of the kids from my class. In our part we used lights around our body and glowing masks and we did our show in the dark so it was really cool. It was one of the best.

MY STAY AT WAITANGI

Waitangi was the best experience I have ever had, I will tell you my favourite and not so favourite part of the trip.

Starting with the not so favourite part. I didn't really like the bus ride because I am very carsick and it was more than 3 hours, that was actually my highest record on staying on a bus. The worst thing was that we couldn't swim at Copthorne hotel because we didn't have enough time, that swimming pool looked so cool. last but not least I didn't really like some of the food because they are just not my type, but some of them were delicious especially the Hangi.

Okay, my favourite parts of the trip, in first place would have to be the powhiri at runanga marae, it actually took me to the past and showed me what the maori culture were, they were not afraid of their enemy, I really liked the maori instrument and the weapons that they used in the olden days and now. I loved the performance, I was actually a bit scared.

The second thing I loved was the marae stay, that night Faia Ema told us a some of her child hood stories they were funny and inspiring. She also told us the relationship between all of us. Saying goodbye to Faia Ema was really sad.

Last but not least my favourite thing was hanging out with my friends and have a great trip.

P.M.I Reflection (Movie)

This week at Pt England School I was in creative strand (Movie Making). The movie that I made had a lot of characters mostly my friends. They were really good at acting. I was the director and also the villain in the movie.

R,J,N,M from Team 5 PES on Vimeo

Sorry guys I forgot to do the credits on the movie so here it is.

Mosa as Angela
Nathaniel as James
Jonathan as James's friend
Raihan as Villain and Director
Roman as Villain guard
Thanks for watching

This is my PMI reflection about the movie:

P: The positive thing about this movie is that we worked together and didn't muck around. It turned out to be a really cool and funny movie. Everyone liked it.

M: The negative thing about the movie was Angela's hair, it changed because on the second day of filming we went to the green screen room to look for it but another group was using it and we didn't know so we tried hard and got something similar.

I: The interesting thing about the movie was that when everyone was watching, they didn't notice the hair changing and they liked it a lot. It was hilarious.

IMMERSION ASSEMBLY

On the first day of Term 3, when I came to school with my little brother Ayman I couldn’t wait to find out what our new topic was. I heard the first bell ring and quickly went into my class. My teacher marked of the role and we lined up in B,GS (boys and girls). We went to the hall for our Immersion Assembly and sat down on the chairs. Then I saw on the projector our topic was “Life’s A Stage.”

It was pretty noisy, but when Mr Burt started speaking everyone was quiet. Mr Burt was dressed up as James Taylor. He told us about how James Taylor let us have Point England and how his father died also how lots of schools were named after him and his father.

Mr Burt Announced Team 1 to come on the stage and perform their act. Mr Liufau came up and said lets play a guessing game that’s about fairy tale characters. The first one was “she is a evil, she is a witch and likes to eat kids. An evil witch came out of nowhere and looked really really freaky. The second one was Princess and the frog, and was much much more but I forgot.

Mr Burt Announced Team 2 to come on the stage. Mrs She, Mrs Blake and Mrs Glaze came up with fancy costumes that from the 70’s till now. There was a video playing on the projector. It was hilarious because there were 2 dancing really funny. The next video was jazzy, like a disco and lots of people were moving their body fast. Then the final video Michael Jakson everyone was cheering very very loud including me.

TO BE CONTINUED NEXT TIME

The Big Wolf With The Red Hood

Once upon a time the was a little wolf family of 3. The mum wolf really liked to cook and bake a lot of stuff, the dad wolf was a woodsman and lastly the big wolf with the red hood was their son.

One day the big wolf with the red hood’s grandma was really sick and his mum backed her some goodies. The big wolf with the red hood had to take it to his grandma which was on the other side of the forest.

As he was walking through the forest the little bad girl saw him. The little bad girl was a wolf hunter. She quickly ran to him and told him to take a short cut so he could get to his grandma’s house fast, but it was the long way. She tricked him so she could get to grandma’s house first and lock her in the closet and she did. Then she quickly dressed up as grandma.

Finally the wolf arrived and knocked on grandma’s door. The little bad girl changed her voice and said, “come in deary.”

He came in and said, “oh grandma what little eyes you have? The little bad girl replied, “Just to look at you perfectly”. Then he said, “Oh grandma what little ears you have? Little bad girl replied, “Just to hear you perfectly.” Then he said, “Oh grandma what little hands you have and why do you have a knife? The Little bad girl replied just so I can perfectly kill you.

The big wolf with the red hood started screaming really loud and the dad heard him while he was cutting wood in the forest. He ran really fast, broke the window came in and rescued grandma wolf and his son. Then they lived happily ever after.

Global Warming

Today a guy named Joshua Iosefo came to our literacy class and told us that our voice is Valuable and we all can do something with our voice. We can do poetry, speech, speak to an audience and much more. The first task he gave us was to write about a scribble that he had drawn on the board. Here is what I came up with.

This scribble looks really messy and somehow interesting how there is a line curved that probably is a stick, the “s” probably represents a snake or a bird and there’s a “2” I don’t know why and lastly there is some kind of x,o game platform.

After we wrote it we had to say it out loud to in front of everyone. The next task he Josh gave us was... If we could say something to the world what would it be. Here is what I came up with, it’s about “Global Warming.”

please stop global warming it is really bad instead of riding to school why don’t you people just walk so you get fit and stop the bad pollution that comes out of the car also you don’t have to waste that much money fuel that you buy for your car. If you do this you will save more money, lower down the pollution and the kids will get fit all just by walking.

It was really fun having Josh and telling us that our voice is valuable also giving us these tasks. I really enjoyed it.

I learned how to edit a movie on Imovie. I learned how to export a garageband to Imovie.

Blue Hat - What can I do better next time.

Act better in the movie because I wasn't that good. Get better at climbing and doing tricks so I don’t need Mosa to be the stunt double.

Anthony, Howard and Raihan Prospective Student Narrative

There he was climbing a triturus mountain to get to the mystical dojo of doom. Chuckie Chan was determined to find his inner chi and get his medal of achievements in kung fu at this prestigious school of martial arts.

When he reached the dojo of doom he rang the doorbell a sensei came out and pointed to the right hand side of him. Chuckie Chan was confused with what the sensei did and started to meditate all day and night to show the sensei that he was eager to get into this school.

The next day the door opened and Chuckie Chan awakened but the sensei still pointed to the right hand side. Chuckie Chan got furious at the sensei and threatened to use kung fu punches and kicks at him but then the sensei pointed again.

Chuckie Chan looked on the side of the dojo wall and a sign hung on a nail and said PLEASE USE THE SIDE DOOR TO GET IN!! Chuckie Chan got embarrassed and walked to the side door relieved.

Literacy Rotation

This term at Pt England school the teachers from team five thought it would be better if the year 7 and 8      students started school at 8:30 with a choice of four things such as visual arts, stop-motion film making, hyperstudio and literacy.

Last week I had my session and it was on visual arts. The teacher for visual arts was my teacher Miss Tito. She taught us a lot about kowhaiwhai and also some Maori words such as koru, pitoe, ponga, and kowhai whai. Kowhai whai is korus joined together. We also learned about negative and positive space.

I really enjoyed visual arts because art is my favorite subject and also I learned a lot from Miss Tito mostly how to do korus.

This week I am in Literacy where we do writing, post on our blog and reading. We do this to improve in writing and reading skills and get more posts on our blog.

I really like the idea that we start school at 8:30 and get lots of opportunities. Its really fun.

Raihan SSW-WEEK7

It was a cold, dark, gloomy night. I stumbled upon an abandoned hut deep in the heart of the forest. I was just about to enter the hut, when suddenly..... I heard something in the bushes when I looked nothing was there. Then I heard a lady scream really loud and I thought she needed help, I followed that voice and when I reached the lady she was lying dead on the ground.

I went closer to her suddenly she came back alive and she had no eyeballs on her eye she also had a scar on her face. I was really scared and I started running for my life, then she was right there, right in front of me. Then I knew it was a ghost. I still tried to save myself and ran really fast.

I ran to my hut, I heard something in the bushes again and this time the bush was glowing, I went to the bush really fast and I saw a glowing stick, I took that stick. Then all the glowness went into my mouth and I had the power of the wand inside me. I was the only one who control it. I didn't fear of the ghost any more I waved the wand and put a very powerful spell on the ghost and I trapped it forever in that forest.

I knew this wouldn't be a safe place for me any more so I packed everything and went to a village nearby and lived there forever and if anything would happen to this village I would always save it with my magical wand.

Fun Run Recount

At Pt England school we, the year 7 & 8s does P.E (physical education) everyday after morning tea. This term we always run a lot to improve our running skills for a 5 kilometre run that we are going to do, but we have to dress up as something or someone. This is called a fun run.

Every time we practise running, the P.E teachers takes note of our time. The first time I ran I got a time of 6 mins 15 sec, and today my time was 5 mins 34 sec.

Kupu Hou Words

This term at Pt England school our topic is all about food and in Room 19 our teacher  (Miss Tito) gave us each 2 vocabulary words about food. Miss Tito showed us a website that is like a food dictionary which explains food words. Then we had to make a presentation about the 2 words. My 2 words were "fructose and riboflavin" and here is what I did.

Reading Reflection Week 2

Title: Zac Power Frozen Fear
Author: H.I. Larry
Pages: 1-50
Date: 15/5/13

This book is about a boy called Zac Power who is an agent and he goes on a mission to the Icy Pole. He found out some people were trying to steal and collect as much as oil they can so they could use a nuclear bomb to destroy the world.

I think the author is a good writer because this story is spectacular and creative. The gadgets that he has drawn looks amazing and the names of the gadgets are awesome.

I enjoy this story a lot.

A Special Guest

Last week on Wednesday our principle (Mr Burt) told us that a special guest was going to come on Thursday at the assembly and he said it was gonna be a huge surprise. At the assembly when we walked into the hall I was already surprised because there were cameras everywhere.

It was taking along time for the special guest to arrive and everyone was wondering who will it be? Mean while one of the camera man was asking my friend Anthony and me some questions. Beside us was a photographer who was taking photos of us because we were sitting up beautifully.

Finally the special guest arrived and it was Will.i.am famous pop singer from Black Eyed peas.
He surprised all of us and we all cheered for him. After that the Kapahaka and the hiphop groups performed for Will.i.am. He donated us a cheque of 100 000 dollars.

TITLE: Zac Power Frozen Fear
AUTHOR: H.I. LARRY
Page: 1 - 38
Date:8/5/13

SUMMARIZE: This book is about a boy called Zac power and his family who are spies, when they were just about to take a summer holiday a helicopter came and took Zac, it was a special agent and Zac was sent on a mission to the Icy Pole to investigate suspicious activity in that area, but it was going to be a tough mission for Zac because the Icy Pole is so remote you can’t use any gadgets or call anyone for help.

What My Friends Say About Me.

On the last day of term 1, in our class (Room 19), we had to tape a piece of paper at the back of every student and write positive things about things about them. After that we looked at our papers and were surprised of what people wrote about us.

One of the thing that somebody wrote about me was, "cool hair." I think they may have wrote this because I make my hair really cool when I come to school.

Another thing somebody wrote about me was, "you are a super star." I think they may have wrote this because I always focus on my work and I never be silly in class.

This other thing somebody said was, "you are so cool!!!." I think they may have wrote this because I am a respectful friend and a cool to hang out.

The experience of doing this was really fun and this was a great thing to do.

Going Home Through The Cemetery.

One late night, two kids went to watch a really scary movie called “no such things as ghosts” at the Cinemas, they were brothers and sisters. Their names were Mike and Sally.

After the movie as they were heading home they remembered their mom telling them to come home early or they won’t get to watch anymore movies. To take the shortcut they had to go through the cemetery.

The started walking and they heard lots of creepy noises, they were thinking in their mind that all those things that they watched in movie, it would come in front of them and kill them, they were really scared. They saw a light glowing on the other side of the cemetery which was on the walk path. They followed it and eventually got home. Then they said to themselves “let’s never do that again.”

Fiafia Practice 2013 Bollywood

This year at Pt England school on the first term we are doing something called "fiafia." It's a thing where we have to pick a group and do something, like how I picked Bollywood and my group is doing a Bollywood dance. We have been practising for about 8 weeks and we are doing this to perform our culture. The teacher that are teaching us are Mrs Lal and Mrs khan.

The first time I started practising it was pretty hard but now I can do it properly. The dance that we are doing looks really cool and I can't wait till we do it on stage. The teachers are are counting on the student to give it their best shot and we will.

This experience of Bollywood dancing felt amazing to me because of  the dance moves looks really cool and the awesome cultural clothes that we are going to be wearing on the stage.

Flax Picking

Last week, my class Room 19 and some of the kids from Room 20 had an opportunity to go down to the Omaru Creek and pick some flax to make some putiputi (flowers). We walked a short distance to get there because it was really close to our school.

As we arrived there we sat down in the shade and our teacher (Miss Tito) told us some rules of what we should do to the flax and what we shouldn't. She said, "you should never step on flax, never cut them on rainy days or night time, never ever cut the baby flax or the whole bush will die. Also if you cut all the flowers  that grows on the flax bushes all the native birds in New Zealand will die.

After that we started cutting the flax and then we ripped the sides of the flax and then we put the ripped sides under the flax bush so that nobody steps on it. Later we came back to school and started making it it was really hard to follow, I was struggling a lot but then Miss Tito helped me and I was onto it. Then suddenly Miss Flavelle (one of the office teacher) came and called me to go somewhere.

    Pictures of what we did.

Tuakana/Teina (Oldest/Youngest)

This year at Pt England school room 19 (my class) had decided to help room 9 to improve their reading skills. We both classes go to the school library every Tuesday to do this. This is called Tuakana/Teina means Oldest/youngest.

We had to pair up with a junior kid from room 9, then pick a book and read it to each other.
My partner was really good at reading and he was not naughty like the other little kids.
It felt great reading helping room 9 with their reading skills.

Picnic At Point England School

Every year, Pt England school always has a picnic down at the reserve on every March the first, and this  one was amazing. We walked a short distance their because it was really close. After we arrived there, we had a little meeting and after the meeting we started to have lots of fun. Anthony, Carlos, Mohammed and me had our own things. Mohammed brought some music, I brought the mat, Carlos and Anthony brought lots of food. It was wonderful.

After a while we left the picnic spot and started to make a little muddy pond close to the beach. My friends helped me make it more deeper. My brother was the one that helped most. It was amazingly fun.

After that we had a swim, I jumped of the huge rock and I was about to drown because I wasn't really good at swimming but luckily Miss Tito (my teacher) rescued me because she was one of the assistants that was in the water. She Told me that she had to stay in the water for the whole day.

When we got off the beach my friends and me went to the showers and had a shower also got changed and then had lunch. Later we played some really fun games and had a try on Mr Barks kite. At 2:30 Mr Burt (our principle) made this loud noise like a siren, then everyone started packing up and we went back to school.

Learning About Honesty

What is Honesty? This year Pt England school is learning to be “Better Together”- “Kia pai te kotahi.” In Room 19 we have been investigating love, compassion, honesty and tolerance. Ms Tito (our teacher) gave us a task to select one of these words to write a definition and present an example of what it means to our class. The reason we are learning about these things are to help us understand ourselves and others, so we can be a better person today and in the future.

My group chose the word Honesty. Here is a definition and an example of what it looks like.

Definition: Honesty means being truthful to others, being truthful to yourself, doing what's right and being someone that others could trust.

Pictures about honesty.
